Fonts to delete after installing Snow Leopard

Step One: Delete Font Caches:

Before removing testing and removing fonts, delete your font caches. Be sure to use a Snow Leopard ready utility. Two options:

Font Finagler

FontNuke

In Font Nuke: Click in the Toolbar "Nuke Font Caches". Select Update Caches List. Then Nuke Font Caches. It has a feature to reset Spotlight caches. These can be recreated, but it takes a while and unless you are having problems. This is not necessary.

Once you delete caches your computer will restart. IMPORTANT!


Step two: Delete duplicate fonts after installing Snow Leopard

Snow Leopard installs newer version of some fonts. You will need to delete the older Microsoft versions of these fonts.

Directions to remove Microsoft 2008 Fonts after installing Snow Leopard

Office X and Office 2004 users need to delete the entire Font folder in your User's Library/Fonts folder if you upgrade to Office 2008 when you upgrade to Snow Leopard in addition to removing the older versions of Office 2008 fonts in Library/Fonts .

Open the Microsoft Folder in Library/Fonts.

Still using an older version of Office on Snow Leopard? Office X and Office 2004 users fonts are installed in the User's Library/Fonts folder. I suggest disabling this entire folder by either moving it out of the User's Library or renaming the folder. You can run Office without any of these fonts. It's possible there is a font that is specific to Office that might cause a display problem with Office windows and tools. I suggest comparing the Microsoft fonts to the fonts in the Library/Fonts folder. If the font is listed there, you don't need the ones Microsoft installed in the User's Library/Fonts folder. I also suggest you use Font Book to validate your fonts. See directions below.

Select Icon view then sort by List view so you don't accidentally remove the fonts from the root Library folder.

Click on List view

You can use the print list to delete or use Font Book as your guide however, Font Book might show other fonts that are troublesome. This article is specifically for Microsoft 2008 fonts with Snow Leopard.

Open Font Book in your Applications folder.

You will see some fonts marked with either the yellow badge or a black dot. (This is a merged image to just show the dupes Not a true representation.)

Hold down Command key while selecting fonts to delete.

Next Validate fonts. Select All Fonts (Command-A). Under File in the Font Book Menu bar, select Validate Fonts

Make sure you get all green check marks when you validate.

Most likely you will find that Benhaus 93 will give you a caution sign. You might want to delete this font too.
