Setting up your email account to use digital ID

Now that you have your digital ID in your personal keychain, setup your email account in Entourage to use it:

1. In the particular email account's Account Preferences, select the Security tab: View Screenshot

2. Click the "Select" button under Signing Certificate, choose the digital ID/certificate you want to use, and click Choose. This list contains all the personal certificates you have imported into your personal keychain (the example below shows 15 different identities): View Screenshot

3. Do the same for your Encryption certificate. You should see the certificates you chose now updated in the window. View Screenshot

4. It's best to leave the two options that are checked by default. If you also want to digitally sign all messages you send by default, check the "Digitally sign all outgoing messages by default" option. If you want to encrypt all messages you send by default, check the "Encrypt contents and attachments for all outgoing messages by default" option. You can always turn on/off encryption and/or digital signature later when you're actually composing a message. For more information on what these options mean, click here.

5. OK out of the dialog.

That's it!

Note: In Jaguar, any time you perform an action that brings up security UI (such as the Choose Identity or the View Certificate dialogs), you'll 'lose' the password stored in the keychain for all accounts under that identity for the remainder of the Entourage session. This is a known bug with OS X, not Entourage. Relaunching Entourage will give you the opportunity once again to resave your password, however subsequently accessing any security UI will again cause your passwords to be forgotten.
