New2Mac & Entourage 101
Some basics that will help you get started with Entourage and your Mac. If you are feeling frustrated, watch "The Book", a humorous video, that demonstrates all interfaces must be learned.
Let's start with the menu bar...that's the bar that goes across the top of the screen. The menu bar menus will change as you switch applications. For example, when the Finder is active, you'll see the following menus across the menu bar: the Apple logo, Finder, File, Edit, View, Go, Window, and Help. When Entourage is active you will see this menu on the left side of the screen.

The right side of the menu bar is custom to what YOU have installed.

Under the Blue Apple: You will find About this Mac.

This tells you what version of the OS you have installed. Click on the Software Update button and Apple Software Update application will launch and check for updates.
You can select to Ignore certain updates if they don't pertain to your setup. You can select to install and KEEP Packages
or just install. If you simply install, a receipt is stored but the actual installer is not kept on your computer.
Receipts are stored in /Library/Packages.

Packages are stored in /Library/Packages.

Get Info shows the package is much more than a receipt. Note the size (12.6 MB) of this package. Most receipts are less than 1 MB in size. Something to consider when you select to keep packages.

In Software Update you can also view what packages Apple Installed.

Under Entourage in the menu bar select About Entourage.
You will find the version and build for Entourage. In this example the version is 11.3.3 and the build is (061214). More about build numbers

Also under Entourage in the menu bar, check out Preferences. This is how you customize Entourage your way. Visit Get Started with Entourage to learn about setting your preferences.
Starting with Office 2008, Office is installed using a package installer.

Older versions of Microsoft Office do not use package installers, but you can find what has been installed in the Log files. Receipts are only generated for applications that use .pkg installers.

Now you know how to find version info for Apple applications and Entourage. Most other applications keep their version info in the Menu bar under their name next to the blue apple. Some keep the info under Help.
